According to 2021 workplace safety data, 60 of the reported worker deaths that year involved transportation professionals, and 42 of those fatalities involved motor vehicle operators.
The second deadliest profession is construction, which saw 35 worker deaths. Those in building maintenance and grounds work are in the third most dangerous profession which saw 20 worker deaths in 2021. Other professions with reported worker deaths in Georgia in 2021 included management, sales, farming/fishing/forestry, manufacturing work and maintenance/installation professions.
Workers in transportation, manufacturing and construction, therefore, have particular reason to worry about their safety on the job and inspiration to learn more about their workers’ compensation protections and other rights. Being aware of the risk inherent in one’s profession can go a long way toward helping people protect their interests and make use of their rights if they do get hurt.
