Georgia driver collides with patrol car on New Year's Day

Even under the best of circumstances, no one particularly wants to have a run-in with law enforcement. One driver in Alpharetta, Georgia, allegedly had a run-in with law enforcement under perhaps the worst possible circumstances on New Year's Day, crashing into a patrol car parked along the highway early Tuesday morning. The female driver now faces charges for traffic-related offenses, including driving under the influence. Authorities believe that her blood alcohol content may have been three times the legal limit.

It is unknown whether the driver sustained any injuries in the accident, nor is it clear whether she remains in custody. Law enforcement officers at the scene remain uninjured because they were out of their vehicles at the time of the collision.

The reason that law enforcement was on the scene in the first place is that another collision had occurred just before the accident, and officers were assisting motorists involved in that crash and waiting for authorities in Roswell to respond. Patrol cars stationed in the roadway had their emergency lights flashing. Photos of the patrol car published in the aftermath show extensive damage to the rear of the vehicle. The condition of the vehicle that struck the patrol car is unknown.

The accident occurred in North Fulton County near the Holcomb Bridge Road Interchange of Georgia 400 on the southbound side. No further details as to the time of the collision are available apart from the fact that it occurred early in the morning on January 1st, but photos taken in the aftermath indicate that the sun had not yet risen as the sky appears dark.

There are no good circumstances under which a motor vehicle accident can occur, and those dealing with negative circumstances as a result of a collision in which someone else was at fault may find it helpful to contact an attorney.
