A woman recently lost her life and three others suffered serious injuries in a vehicle crash that took place in Georgia. The car accident occurred on a Monday morning. It involved a school bus and two cars.
At around 7:45 a.m., a minivan reportedly hit a Nissan Altima at the intersection of two streets. Police said the Altima was going west on a road and stopped at a stop sign, while the minivan was going north along Georgia 3. The Altima then allegedly entered the intersection and tried to turn left toward Georgia 3 southbound. That is when the minivan hit the driver’s side of the Altima.
The woman driving the Altima passed away at the accident scene. Meanwhile, the impact of the crash caused the minivan to spin and hit a school bus that was stopped at a stop sign. One passenger in the minivan was thrown from the vehicle and got trapped between the van and the bus; he was transported to the hospital with leg and head trauma, along with a possible pelvis fracture. Two other people riding in the minivan suffered serious injuries and were also transported to the hospital. There were no children on the bus when the wreck occurred, and the driver and bus monitor on the bus suffered no injuries.
Typically, a person turning left is financially responsible for causing an auto accident with an automobile approaching from the opposite direction. If police determine that the deceased Altima driver was at fault in the car accident, the injured parties from the minivan have the right to file personal injury claims against this person’s estate and against any parties who separately owned the Altima. Meanwhile, if the minivan driver is determined to have been at fault, the loved ones of the deceased Altima driver may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the minivan. Only if liability is established to the satisfaction of a civil court in Georgia will damage claims be decided.
