2 dead, 2 injured in Georgia truck accident

Some of life’s difficulties may be avoided if people pay attention to what is going on around them. However, as many Georgia residents already know, some things just cannot be avoided. That is why they are called accidents. On highways where there are many vehicles, a truck accident can often be more dangerous than an accident only involving passenger vehicles.

A recent accident did not just affect the two initial vehicles involved but also two others that were affected by the damage left in the wake of the first collision. According to the Georgia State Patrol, a semi-truck and an SUV were both traveling eastbound on Interstate 20. Sometime around 7:30 p.m, the SUV slammed into the 18 wheeler, which was the initial crash. Sources report that both vehicles then swerved into the center median.

The truck’s cab broke free from the jackknifing trailer and slammed into the pylon that supports a bridge over the interstate. This impact caused the cab to burst into flames, killing its two occupants. The occupants of the SUV survived the crash, but they were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. There is no word as yet regarding their current conditions. The report does not say if the occupants of the two vehicles that crashed into the leftover debris were injured.

The Georgia State Patrol will continue their investigation into this fatal truck accident to determine the exact cause. The families of the two deceased victims in the cab are within their rights to file wrongful death claims against the driver of the SUV, apart from any workers' compensation benefits that may apply. If it is determined that the driver of the sports utility vehicle was the at-fault party in the crash, monetary awards may be granted by a civil court, which can help defray any expenses incurred due to the wreck. The passenger in the SUV may also seek assistance to assess his or her right to pursue a legal claim for financial relief as well.
