A recent vehicle accident in Georgia led to two injuries and three deaths. The head-on car accident happened on a Saturday evening. It occurred along U.S. 84 East.
Police said a man was operating a pickup truck heading east in the highway lanes going west. Shortly before 6:50 p.m., the man then crashed into a sport utility vehicle that was traveling west. The sport utility vehicle landed in the median of the highway, and the truck landed in the highway. Three people in the sport utility vehicle were trapped inside of it and had to be extricated with the help of firefighters. Authorities said they did not think any of the SUV’s occupants were wearing safety belts.
Three people from the sport utility vehicle died at the crash scene; their ages ranged from 46 to 75. A fourth person from this vehicle suffered critical injuries and was taken to the hospital via helicopter. Meanwhile, the pickup truck driver suffered injuries deemed not to be life-threatening. Police were unsure as to why the pickup truck driver was going in the incorrect direction; charges against him are pending.
Besides possibly facing criminal charges, the driver of the pickup truck may also face wrongful death claims filed by the surviving loved ones of the three individuals who passed away in the Georgia car accident. The injured victim may also choose to file a personal injury claim in this case. Only if the pickup truck driver’s financial responsibility in the crash is sufficiently established in civil court will claims for monetary damages be adjudicated.
