Car crashes seem to happen almost daily due to drivers who consumed alcohol prior to getting behind the wheel of a vehicle. Most Georgia drivers are told the dangers of drinking and driving as a part of learning to drive and prior to getting their driver’s license. Some drivers seem to either forget this or ignore the consequences, which can lead to a serious or deadly car accident.
Local law enforcement officials might site alcohol as the primary cause in a recent fatal crash. This particular accident took place at an intersection off Buford Highway sometime after 2 a.m. According to authorities, two vehicles were involved in the crash.
The first was a Daewoo, occupied by a 48-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, that failed to stop at a stop sign. The report did not identify which of the two men was the driver. The second vehicle involved was a Pontiac which had a family of four as its occupants.
The two men in the Daewoo were killed in the crash. The boy and girl in the Pontiac, 9 and 5 years old, were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their non-life threatening injuries. The parents were reportedly injured as well, but no detail on the extent of their injuries is available at this time.
The Gwinnet County Police continues its investigation into the crash. Georgia officials have stated that both speeding and driving while intoxicated were most likely the causes of this fatal car accident. The family of the deceased passenger in the Daewoo may exercise their right to file a wrongful death claim against the estate of the driver. The injured family may file personal injury claims for each family members seeking damages including any out-of-pocket medical expenses and lost wages (for the parents) while recuperating from their injuries.
