Accidents involving two or more vehicles on the road are not very unusual, but authorities probably do not expect to receive reports of a roadway accident involving a boat. However, that is exactly what law enforcement in Cobb County, Georgia received late Saturday evening in regard to an accident on Interstate 75.

A department spokesperson reported that authorities were not sure what they were getting into from the conflicting information they received from the initial calls. The investigation into the accident, which claimed the life of one of the drivers involved, is still ongoing, and law enforcement has encouraged any witnesses to the accident to come forward with further information.

Due to the initial confusion, crews had to search the area before they located the site of the accident at the State Route 120/Marietta Loop. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found a boat lying in the middle of the road, an SUV with an empty boat trailer and a small silver vehicle damaged beyond recognition of make or model.

Both vehicles contained at least one passenger in addition to the driver. It is unclear whether the passengers and driver of the SUV received treatment at the hospital, but they are reportedly in stable condition. Responders rushed the male passenger of the smaller vehicle, whose injuries were critical, to the hospital. His current condition is unknown, but the female driver of the smaller vehicle died at the scene.

Authorities are still puzzled as to how and why the boat came free of the trailer, whether it happened before or during the accident and whether it was a contributing cause. A motor vehicle accident can be frightening and confusing for everyone, and people who have received injuries in one may find it helpful to consult an attorney.
