Two people have suffered injuries in a motor vehicle crash in Georgia. One of the injured parties was a juvenile. Unfortunately, according to police, the accident was the result of drunk driving.

The collision took place on a recent Monday afternoon on Highway 20 and involved four cars. Police reported that four automobiles were going east along the highway. All of a sudden, the fourth automobile — a sport utility vehicle — ran into the back of the one in front of it. This apparently caused a chain-reaction crash.

The other cars involved in the collision were slowing down or stopped due to construction at the time of the accident. When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found a woman who had sustained a cut to her leg, and a juvenile who complained about suffering pain all of over her body. Responders took the girl to the hospital to undergo an evaluation. Meanwhile, the 54-year-old woman who drove the sport utility vehicle was arrested on charges of DUI, following too closely and child endangerment. Police said three young children were in the car with her when the collision happened.

The loved ones of the girl who was injured in the Georgia accident may choose to file a personal injury claim on her behalf against the woman who is now facing criminal charges. If the woman ends up being convicted on her charges, proof of the conviction may be presented in a related civil court hearing in an effort to establish liability. If liability is established before the court, monetary damage claims will be decided. A monetary damage award in a successfully fought case may help with addressing hospital bills and emotional distress stemming from the alleged drunk driving accident.
