Sometimes motor vehicle accidents happen in Georgia due to another driver’s carelessness. In some situations, such accidents can lead to life-altering brain injury. Unfortunately, the cost of treating brain injuries can easily be hundreds of thousands of dollars or even millions of dollars when assisted care, therapy and rehabilitation are included.

Motor vehicle collisions are some of the most common causes of injuries to the brain. Symptoms of this type of injury usually start to appear not long after the injury takes place. These injuries happen when the brain suffers a jolt or blow, the impact of which interferes with the normal functioning of the brain.

Several symptoms of brain injuries exist, including numbness and excessive drowsiness. Other symptoms include a severe headache along with vomiting and nausea. A patient may even lose consciousness or suffer from confusion or slurred speech. In addition, brain injury patients may experience the loss of vision, some dizziness or even weakness in their limbs.

Various medical tests can be used to diagnose brain injury following an accident, such as an MRI or CT scan, or even the Glasgow Coma Scale Test. In addition, treatment for injuries include over-the-counter medication for pain as well as anti-seizure drugs or surgery, depending on the patient’s circumstances. If the patient’s brain injuries stem from a crash caused by a careless driver in Georgia, the victim has the right to file a personal injury claim against that driver, pursuing damages. A successfully fought claim may lead to a damage award, which may help with addressing medical costs and other accident-related financial losses.
