Car accident involves bicyclist, leads to driver's arrest

A man in Georgia who police said struck a bicyclist while driving his automobile is currently in jail. The arrest took place on a recent Friday afternoon. The man who reportedly caused the injury car accident is 51 years old.

According to police, the man was driving his car on a Wednesday evening. All of a sudden, the man is said to have intentionally driven toward the bicyclist and hit him with the mirror on the car's driver's side. The crash caused the bicyclist to fall.

Police said that is when the car driver left the scene, leaving his broken mirror behind. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries and was eventually released. The car driver, who later turned himself in, now faces several charges, including not reporting a crash, failing to maintain a safe distance during passing, felony hit-and-run and aggravated assault.

The bicyclist may opt to file a personal injury claim against the car driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. If the car driver is convicted on his charges, proof of the criminal conviction may be presented in a related civil court proceeding in an effort to establish liability before the court hearing the case. Once liability has been established, claims for financial damages will be adjudicated. Financial compensation awarded in a successfully fought suit may help with addressing medical costs as well as the loss of wages caused by the Georgia car accident. It may furthermore help with addressing pain and suffering resulting from the injury accident.
