Fatal accident claims life of 4-year-old girl

One girl in Georgia recently lost her life in a tragic vehicle accident. The fatal accident happened on a recent Saturday at a little past 3:50 p.m. It involved two vehicles.

Police said the accident happened when a 31-year-old woman was driving her sport utility vehicle but did not come to a stop at a stop sign. She thus struck another vehicle driven by a 30-year-old woman. In the car that was struck was a 4-year-old girl who was not sitting in a child safety seat. Authorities pronounced her dead at the crash scene.

The woman who allegedly failed to stop now faces charges of not stopping at a stop sign, second-degree vehicular homicide and violating the terms of a learner's permit. In addition, the woman whose vehicle was hit faces charges of violating child restraint laws, as none of the four children in the car were strapped in properly; she is also facing second-degree vehicular homicide charges. Both women pleaded not guilty. Officials said the parents of the girl who died were not in the vehicle with her at the time of the collision.

The surviving family members of the deceased girl in the Georgia accident may decide to file a wrongful death claim in this case. Competent proof of negligence is required to establish liability in this type of civil case. Once that has been accomplished, the court will adjudicate claims for monetary damages, which -- if granted -- may help to cover burial costs and other financial losses incurred due to a fatal accident.
