Fatal accident leaves 1 dead

A recent fatal crash on Interstate 85 in Georgia left one driver dead and another one missing. When officers arrived at the fatal accident, they found a white truck on its side but did not see  the other vehicle that had crashed. The driver of the pickup, who was not wearing a seat belt, had been ejected from the truck during the collision.

The 47-year-old male victim was a sergeant at the state prison in Buford. Police say his pickup collided with an SUV operated by a 20-year-old woman. She stopped briefly after the accident but then abruptly drove away.

According to the police, she later appeared at police headquarters and surrendered. She has been charged for a hit-and-run and vehicular homicide. However, the police are still looking for witnesses to the accident to help them determine exactly what happened to cause the crash.

Most drivers travel at high speeds on Interstate 85, and accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. When a person who is involved in a crash leaves the scene of an accident, the police officer's job is much harder. This Tuesday afternoon accident was no different.

The surviving family members of the deceased driver are entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit in a Georgia civil court as a result of this fatal accident. It will be necessary to prove negligence on the part of the driver who then fled the scene of the accident. If properly established before the court, a monetary judgment may be ordered for documented items of financial damages occasioned by the tragedy.
