On July 10, a man was booked into the Coweta County Jail. He is believed to be at fault in an accident that occurred in February and took the life of a 25-year-old man. According to the booking records, the 41-year-old man was charged with felony vehicular homicide. He was also charged with failure to maintain his lane and DUI regarding the fatal accident.

According to a sergeant with Georgia State Patrol, the authorities with the crime lab at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined that the man’s blood alcohol content was .109 shortly after the accident. The accused man and his passenger were injured in the crash. The accident happened at about 9:40 p.m. on Feb. 20.

The younger driver was traveling north in a car on a Georgia roadway, and the other driver was southbound in a pickup truck. The two vehicles hit head-on because the pickup driver is said to have crossed the center line. The car driver died at the scene of the accident while the older driver was airlifted to the Atlanta Medical Center. The female passenger in the pickup was taken by ambulance to Piedmont Newnan Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

A fatal accident on a Georgia roadway is tragic under any circumstances. The surviving family members of the deceased victim are entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit in a Georgia civil court, seeking a monetary judgment for damages sustained as a result of the head-on crash. If the pending criminal charges result in a conviction, proof of it may be submitted to the court in a related civil proceeding for the purpose of establishing financial liability for the accident.
