Car accident on U.S. Hwy 319 in Georgia includes fatalities

Head-on collisions have the potential of resulting in serious or fatal injuries. In the aftermath of this type of car accident, the families of the victims are sometimes left wondering what happened since the investigation at the scene did not readily reveal a cause. A recent accident on Georgia's U.S. Highway 319 was both serious and fatal, and the families may not yet have all the answers they need regarding what happened.

Not many details of the crash are available at this time. All that the Georgia State Police reported so far is that two vehicles were involved -- an 18-wheeler and a passenger car. Somehow, the truck and car crashed head-on.

The driver of the semi-truck was the only one who did not suffer serious or fatal injuries. There were three occupants in the passenger car when the accident occurred. One of them, a 40-year-old woman, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two women in the car survived the crash and were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. Sadly, one of them later died despite the efforts of medical personnel. The third woman is still alive, but remains hospitalized in an unknown condition.

The family of the deceased passenger and the surviving passenger may file civil actions in connection with this tragic car accident against the party or parties deemed responsible. Successful claims could lead to an award of damages that could help with the financial burdens that accompany fatal accidents. It is not known at this time which driver was responsible for the crash, so the deceased driver's family may benefit from an understanding of its rights and responsibilities with respect to the death of their loved one.
