The dangers of driving after dark are numerous. Factors such as nocturnal creatures coming out to forage and drivers with bad night vision can turn a nighttime ride into a tragedy. This may have been what happened to one 33-year-old man from Georgia who was killed in a fatal car accident that happened in Bluffton.
The deceased was the passenger of a Ford Mustang that collided with an 18-wheeler. The semi-truck was heading west on U.S. 278 when its driver began making a U-turn. It was then that the Mustang slammed into the rear of the trailer. This impact injured the driver who was flown to a local hospital by helicopter. The extent of the driver’s injuries and his current condition are not known at this time.
As Bluffton Police Department officials continue their investigation into this deadly crash, there is no word as of yet regarding whether the semi-truck was legally making a U-turn or why the Mustang failed to stop in time to avoid a collision. It was not reported if there were any other contributing factors in this car accident. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not reported as being injured because of this crash.
The family of the deceased passenger may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim against the party or parties deemed responsible for their loved one’s death. Any financial restitution awarded may help cover the costly burden caused by a sudden death of a loved one. If the Bluffton Police Department determines that the driver of the semi-truck was at least partially at fault for the Georgia car accident, he or she may be held liable. The company that the driver was working for at the time of the accident may also be culpable for any damages incurred under the legal theory of respondeat superior.
