The holidays provide opportunities to spend time with family and friends. However, the holidays can be an especially terrible time to lose a loved one. Unfortunately, this is what recently happened over the course of a holiday weekend when a man was killed and a woman was injured in a truck accident. When Georgia families are forced to deal with a serious injury at the hands of another person, they may be able to pursue a claim under state personal injury laws.
This incident happened early in the morning when a 29-year-old male driver was driving in his pickup truck. He was traveling down a local road when he ended up crossing the centerline into oncoming traffic. He crashed into a sedan near an intersection with another road.
The driver of the sedan was a 46-year-old woman. She was immediately taken to the local hospital in order to receive treatment for her injuries. The authorities do not suspect alcohol played a factor in the incident. They also reported that the driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and he was not wearing a seat belt.
Although no personal injury lawsuits have been filed as a result of the truck accident at this time, those who sustain injuries in a crash may have the option of filing a civil complaint. If successful, plaintiffs may be able to receive monetary compensation for any medical bills or other expenses related the incident. For example, the woman in the crash in Georgia may be able to file a lawsuit against the estate of the driver who crossed the road’s centerline. However, the final determination as to who is responsible for the accident is likely to be made at the conclusion of the police investigation.
