One individual in Georgia died following a recent car accident. The single-vehicle crash occurred on a Monday afternoon. Sometimes these types of automobile accidents happen due to the carelessness of motorists, in which case these motorists may face claims for financial responsibility in civil court.

The accident occurred at about 3 p.m. According to police, the individual who died was a passenger in a pickup truck that was towing a trailer when the collision took place. The truck apparently collided with a utility pole along a road, causing the pole to split in half as a result of the impact.

When first responders arrived at the accident scene, the passenger had already died. However, emergency crews took the truck driver, who was conscious and alert, to a medical center. Police continued to investigate the cause of the crash.

The surviving loved ones of the passenger who died may decide to file a wrongful death claim against the pickup truck driver, seeking damages. Competent proof of negligence, such as driving too fast for road conditions or driving while distracted, is necessary to establish liability in civil court. A monetary award resulting from a successfully fought claim may help with covering the deceased passenger’s burial costs and other losses tied to these types of automobile accidents, such as the loss of income for surviving dependents or even the loss of companionship for a victim’s spouse, for instance. Monetary damages cannot undo the events leading to the fatal Georgia crash, but it may help the surviving family members to more easily move forward from the accident.
