One person’s life was cut short recently following a tragic multi-car crash in Georgia. Meanwhile, 17 people suffered injuries in the collision. The car accident, which involved eight motor vehicles, took place along Georgia 316 on a Monday afternoon.
According to police, what led to the collision was not immediately clear. However, when authorities arrived at the crash scene, they discovered a car beneath a tractor-trailer, which ended up catching on fire. The car driver passed away at the scene of the wreck.
Nine individuals involved in the accident were transported to a medical center or a separate children’s hospital with injuries that ranged from minor or moderate. However, two adults who were injured in the crash were in critical condition. Meanwhile, another eight received treatment and were released at the accident scene.
If an investigation of the Georgia accident suggests or documents that the semi-truck driver was at fault in the multi-vehicle car accident, this driver and his or her employer may face a wrongful death claim from the surviving family of the deceased victim, should they decide to file one. The truck driver may also face personal injury claims from the seriously injured parties. Meanwhile, if the deceased car driver is found to have caused the crash, the injured victims may choose to file personal injury claims against the deceased’s estate and anyone else with an ownership interest in the car he or she was operating at the time of the accident. In either situation, liability has to be established, based upon a showing of negligence, before claims for monetary damages will be adjudicated.
