Young drivers are often at a disadvantage while they travel on Georgia roads. It is not uncommon for a teenage driver’s inexperience in coping with emergency situations to lead to a devastating crash. One such a car accident caused serious injuries to a passenger of a 16-year-old driver.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident that reportedly occurred on a recent Tuesday morning in Paulding County. A spokesperson for the sheriff’s department said the 16-year-old student with one passenger was northbound on a local roadway in a sedan. She entered a curve and allegedly failed to maintain control of the car.
Her car went into the lane of the southbound traffic where it smashed into an SUV that was driven by a 51-year-old Acworth driver. The impact of the crash was on the driver’s side of the SUV. Both occupants of the first car and the driver of the SUV were transported to medical facilities for treatment of injuries. Reportedly, the injuries suffered by the 16-year-old passenger of the first car were most severe.
Any driver — regardless of his or her age — can be held accountable for losses and damages suffered by victims of a car accident that resulted from the driver’s negligence. It is even true if the injured person was a passenger in the car of the person deemed responsible. This young girl may now be facing personal injury claims that could be filed in a Georgia civil court by her passenger and the other driver. Once negligence is established, a monetary judgment may be entered against the driver and other possible owner of the car she was driving.
