The shoulder of an interstate can be a dangerous place to park, even if it is just for a short while. Recently, a fatal accident occurred on Interstate 20 in the westbound lanes. The Georgia truck accident happened at about 4:45 a.m. and involved a tractor trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the roadway.

A car crashed into the parked truck. The driver of a tractor trailer had stopped on the side of the road for reasons that are not apparent. According to reports that Douglasville Police shared on Facebook, there was one injury and one fatality due to the crash. However the police were not releasing the specific details until after their families were notified.

The police department is still investigating the incident. They say that, at this time, no one is in custody. Any charges to be filed will be done so when the investigation is complete. Police departments often wait until after an investigation is complete before filing any criminal charges.

Georgia crash victims may need special care that typically requires a a significant financial commitment. However, a truck accident may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim for damages, seeking a monetary judgment for medical bills, loss of wages and for pain and suffering. Such a claim must include proof of negligence and would normally be filed against the truck driver as well as the driver’s employer if he or she was working at the time of the collision. An attorney can help to determine which options are available and can assist in filing and litigating a suit in a Georgia civil court.
