The road can be a dangerous place. Even the most careful of drivers who follow all the rules can wind up in a car accident. A 20-year-old Georgia man recently found this out the hard way when he was hit by another motorist. He was killed, along with his passenger, in the fatal accident which occurred earlier this month near Athens.
The driver was making a U-turn when the vehicle was hit by a northbound truck. One of the passengers in the car that was hit was a 20-year-old woman, who died instantly. The third passenger, a 19 year old, was rushed to the hospital in Athens to receive treatment.
The driver of the car that was hit was also transported to the same hospital in critical condition. However, despite efforts from the medical staff, he eventually died as a result of the injuries sustained in the car accident. The driver of the truck, a 19-year-old woman, was transported to a nearby medical facility where she was treated and released.
There were no reports of alcohol being a contributing factor to the cause of the crash. However, the authorities provided any potential reasons why the two vehicles crashed, though the U-turn in the roadway may be one focus of any investigation.
For now, reports do not indicate whether of the parties involved, or their loved ones, will be moving forward with civil litigation to collect damages incurred as a result of the fatal wreck. The parties involved, including the families of the deceased victims, will likely review the investigative report along with other evidence to assess what legal steps, if any, they wish to take under Georgia law. If it is determined that one or more parties were negligent in a fashion that caused or contributed to the accident, claims for monetary relief may be appropriate concerning those who were injured or killed as a result.
